Can I Grow My Cannabis Plants Outdoors and What Will I Need?

Many plants can only be grown indoors. One of the benefits of cannabis plants is that they can be grown outdoors. However, to have a successful yield, there are factors to consider if you will set up your plants outside. 

What does the usual climate look like where you live?

Like many plants, warmer weather and environments typically work most effectively for the best growth. Exposure to sunlight is key to plants growing well. Consider the space you have on your property or yard and ensure your cannabis plants are not going to be shielded from the sun. However, it is important to remember that sometimes the temperature can be a little too hot for the plants. Anything in the mid-90s can potentially cause damage to your plants. 

Be mindful of the wind as well. Living in a consistently windy area can also cause physical damage to your plants. 

Will I still need to water my plants if they are growing outdoors?

If you live in a dry climate, you will still need to water your plants. If your climate has regular rainfall, that can help your plants stay hydrated and promote healthy growth, but it is still advised to monitor or track the frequency of rain and how long it lasts. If your environment sees a lot of rain, this could affect growth negatively by saturating the soil too much. 

Can I grow my cannabis plants in my garden next to other plants?

While some plants or flowers are not ideal to grow with cannabis plants, some make great companions. Some benefits of growing cannabis next to other plants are potentially reducing pests and bugs, and they can also sometimes share nutrients. 

Things to watch for if you grow outside in colder weather 

While you can still grow cannabis plants in colder weather, it’s not always ideal and there are things to be mindful of. For example, if your plants experience frost, it can increase moisture, creating the possibility of mold. Depending on how cold your climate is, some temperatures may be too harsh for your plants. If that is the case, you may consider moving your plants indoors or starting the growing process indoors.
