What is CBD Oil and What are its Benefits?

What is CBD?

With the rise of the cannabis industry in the modern day, you’ve likely heard of CBD. CBD is short for the term “cannabidiol” which is a component found in marijuana. Cannabidiol does not cause a feeling of being high when used or consumed. CBD can come from hemp or non-hemp plants. Hemp plants contain less of a percentage of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the chemical in marijuana that causes a high feeling.

In 2018, a law was passed by the United States Congress called the Agricultural Improvement Act, which legalized CBD coming from hemp plants and removed hemp from the federal Controlled Substance Act.

What is the science behind CBD?

As the cannabis industry becomes more popular, medical research does as well. While CBD use is not for everyone, studies show that CBD can help reduce physical pain and help manage symptoms of pain.

Which industries use CBD and oil?

Since the recent legalization and increased acknowledgment of CBD, many industries have started to participate in the usage and promotion of CBD in their products. Other physical ailments such as nausea or inflammation can be reduced with CBD oils. It is also thought that CBD in forms such as lotion, capsules, or inhaled can help promote a healthier lifestyle and wellness. Including reducing stress and anxiety. The following industries have become involved with using CBD:

-Food Service

-Cosmetics and Beauty

-Sports and Physical Wellness

-Mental Health and Anxiety Treatment

One of the most essential benefits of using CBD to improve various aspects of your life is that CBD has shown no risks of dependency.

What risks are still being studied?

As with any chemical or drug used for any medical condition, products can have different side effects depending on the individual. Since CBD use is relatively new in comparison to the length of use of other drugs for specific conditions, much of the data and studies don’t have as long-term studies as other products. Like many drugs or treatments for various conditions, CBD use can cause fatigue or irritability depending on the dosage amount, frequency, and method used (whether it is externally used or consumed orally in some way.)

What is the main benefit of CBD oil?

The main benefit of CBD oil is its potential to provide therapeutic effects without the psychoactive properties associated with THC, another compound found in cannabis. CBD (cannabidiol) has gained attention for its potential to alleviate stress, and anxiety, and even promote better sleep. It's also being explored for its potential to manage various conditions like epilepsy, chronic pain, and inflammation.

What is the downside of CBD oil?

The downside of CBD oil is that its effects can vary from person to person and its regulation is still evolving. Some individuals might experience side effects like dry mouth, drowsiness, changes in appetite, or diarrhea. Additionally, the market for CBD products can be saturated with mislabeled or low-quality products due to the lack of strict regulations.

What are the pros and cons of CBD oil?

Pros: CBD oil offers potential therapeutic benefits for various conditions, such as anxiety, pain, and epilepsy. It's often considered a natural alternative to traditional medications and can promote relaxation without the 'high' associated with marijuana. However, its effectiveness can vary, and its regulation and quality control are still evolving. Additionally, there's ongoing research to fully understand its benefits.

Cons: The lack of comprehensive regulation can lead to inconsistent quality and labeling of CBD products. Some individuals may experience side effects, and interactions with other medications are possible. Moreover, CBD's effects might not be equally beneficial for everyone, and more research is needed to fully understand its long-term impact.

Does CBD oil help with inflammation and pain?

Yes, CBD oil has shown potential in reducing inflammation and pain due to its interaction with the endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in regulating pain and inflammation. CBD's anti-inflammatory properties may contribute to its ability to provide relief from discomfort associated with conditions like arthritis, muscle strains, and chronic pain disorders.

Is CBD the same as Marijuana?

No, CBD is not the same as marijuana. CBD (cannabidiol) is just one of many compounds found in the cannabis plant. Marijuana refers to the cannabis plant that contains varying levels of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive compound responsible for the 'high' feeling. CBD can be derived from both marijuana and hemp plants, but CBD products that adhere to legal guidelines typically have very low levels of THC and won't produce the same psychoactive effects as marijuana.
